At Poseidon's Mercy

At Poseidon's Mercy

A Poem by Subversive Reality

A sole window lit, second floor
Of a house upon cliff top,
Face scored and ravaged,
By restless weather

Inside a man sits, lonely,
His desk lamp lights and provides
The only warmth, too early,
To switch on central heating

His deep lines tell of a story

Ignored by fickle tides,
That swell and thrash, endanger
The ground underneath his precarious dwelling

And as he sits and ponders,
The final wave that battles,
Against chalk held loosely under grass,
A crumbling sound, the light goes out

You tell such a powerful story here. The ocean can be a ravaging beast for those who live near the shoreline. Great imagery throughout. I liked it.
