Eros & Agape

Eros & Agape

A Poem by Kaitlyn Stone

for days I've avoided

writing this poem

pushed myself

out of bed

and into the light

to stare at my shadow

with my back to the mirror

because my reflection seems less

a part of me

than my silhouette

so I look

into the blankness

of my shadow

and think

of how judgment is

separate

from love

maybe

you are a dolphin

and I am a dove

you soak up the riches

of the seas

while I search

the sky, but we can't

help but visit

the boundary

between us, blurring

the lines

I rest on your cool waters

and you fly in leaps

above the surface

but you prefer the power

of the waves and you hope

I'll get pulled

into your tides

and I keep searching

searching for God

to tell me how

to make you love the wings

I was given and not

the feathers you wish me to have

searching for a way

to raise you up with me

and see from above the rippled glass
