Pheonix

Pheonix

A Poem by Kaitlyn Stone

I can feel your heart

     beat beneath the skin

of my palm, as you slide into slumber

               drifting into dreams

while your warmth lights me on fire

                               leaving me hanging

like a lantern late at night

     we are fireflies

            drifting in the dark currents

       of a summer's eve

captured by the light

       glowing from within

                          you and me

       feeding off the heat

of flames, flickering

              dancing in the dark

and I am awake

     almost not wanting to fall

asleep, so as to know

                     this is not a dream

you have awoken me

        from sheets of sleep

to an earth of elements

        fingers imprinting lines of fire

     and eyes of blue

where the flames burn hottest

            with just a look

until I can no longer tell

where the fires fly

      and the waters fall

             in tears, fueling our flames

where the salt mixes with sand

       a bolt shoots down

in the pit of a night storm

                              and millions of volts form

two glass figures--or are we one?

glowing like an ember among ashes

in between one life and the next

            ready to fly again

with feathers of flames

Intense imagery. Superb use of metaphors and similes and incredibly romantic.
