A Teenage Dream

A Teenage Dream

A Poem by Sue
"

Being a teenager was a confusing time for me particularly as I was bullied a lot for being 'different'....

"

Teenage dreams, fantasies alike

Grow fervently in the minds of they

Initiated into its rites

Suffering all its consequences

An age for wild, unruly behaviour

A time for non-conformity defying systems

When identity is feverishly looked for

Hey there goes my personality

Years when the soul is searched deep inside

The meaning of life is sought

Rummaging through the world of adults

To find answers in what’s left behind

A time half in childhood and adulthood

When you’re neither one nor the other

Sometimes so frightened, sometimes so brave

Confusion, caught up in between

Yet suddenly comes the answer of reason

As slowly the light of adult mind

Sweeping across the endless chasm

Mourning the youth that’s left behind

I, too, was different and had no idea how to continue, but eventually you grow and learn. Splendid read and write.
