Wannabe

Wannabe

A Poem by Sue
"

I wrote this when the Spice Girls were at their height. I wasn't particularly a fan so this was a comment on the fad of 'Girl Power.'...

"

Wannabe one of the Spice Girls

The little girl said to me

Wanna strike a note for Girl Power

Create electricity

Wanna trample on the little boys

Steal away their crown

Show them all who’s got the balls

Really go to town

So I can grow up to be Ladette

Down a pint of beer

Beat them all at their own game

She was definitely sincere

What happened to diversity

Got lost as I recall

When all the girls of a certain age

Wanted to become Zoe Ball

Don’t wanna be a Wannabe

I’d rather be the one

Who stayed the woman she always was

Long after this fad has gone
