girl meets WOMAN

girl meets WOMAN

A Poem by elle

I once looked in the mirror and saw a girl
Who had been broken by the harshness of men
Their words ate at her subconscious
And she started to believe all of them

I once looked in the mirror and saw a girl
Who saw more flaws that she did beauty
The pressures from society and social media
Began impacting her self-esteem, truly

I once looked in the mirror and saw a girl
Who was held captive by her own insecurities
So instead of highlighting her inner goddess
She had tunnel vision on all her impurities

I now look in the mirror and see a WOMAN
Who is touch with her confidence and soul
Who doesn't need to the opinions of others
To confirm her beauty and make her feel whole

Her bravery could inspire a wolf
Her love overflows the sturdiest of dams
I simply admire her entire being
Because I am in love with the woman I am.

and if we can learn to love ourselves...we will find that it is much easier for others to love us as well...and love who we really are, not what they all want us to be.

it took a while for me to understand this concept, but painfully true.
Beautiful, a real coming of age but not as we know it traditionally, for we live in a very different world now with not only societal pressures but those of social media too. I liked this a lot.
