Masquerade Ball

Masquerade Ball

A Poem by Justin D
"

Dont always follow what you see.

"

All around the room,
people dance with joy.
The masks they wear,
play with hearts like a toy.

Lies and corruption,
deception and hate.
These masks hold the truth,
and the truth, left to fate.

I sit in the dark,
without a mask on me.
Darkness shrouds,
the emotions you see.

When the lights go on,
so does my mask.
I hide the pain,
as is, the endless task.

I understand the truth,
and I see all your lies.
Dont trust the emotion,
you see in my eyes.

Simply, Amazing!!!

I loved how you let the words rhyme and I love how your poem recognized that mask-wearing doesn't just symbolize identity but also hiding pain. Brilliant!

I felt this poem through and through. You are my kin in this art, I can sense it. Can't wait to read more of your writing.

Hmmm, I confess I've seen a lot of mask poems. And we all know there are lies everywhere. Now I think about it maybe we need masks as the truth is often unbearable.
