A Shattered Illusion

A Shattered Illusion

A Poem by Siren
"

on the loss of innocence and my place in the world

"
I used to dream.
They told me
I could become
anything...
And I believed.

It wasn't until
seventeen years in
that I found out
that I never
even stood a
chance...
And I broke.

Coming to terms
With what the
past holds is
terrifying....
And I'm lost.

there is nothing more terrifying than believing there is nothing left to aspire to, to strive for...to achieve. i can't tell you how many times i have felt like i had nothing left to offer and had become too jaded by my personal history for anyone to care about me...the fact is, that is, quite simply, never the case. 17 is so young, it is a very difficult age to be...i wouldn't do it again for all the tea in China, but you, Siren..you are much stronger than you know...grab the world by the scruff of its neck, pull it right in front of your face, look into its terrified eyes and tell it you own its a*s!!!!! awesome write!!!!!
