An Anguished Cry

An Anguished Cry

A Poem by Siren

I’m sitting here

reeling, seething"

Trying to somehow make sense of this.

What business have you here?

Why must you go tearing apart this world?!

You merciless, ruthless beast!

Is not only our destruction your feast,

but even our pain and sorrow, even our grief?!

You are never satisfied!

How pitiful you are, with

a hunger never pacified!

I envy not your eternal nothingness,

I wish you on neither enemy or friend.

But you are what will become

of all of us, in the end.

Yet I scorn you still with all my might!

Though you might come, I still shall fight!

My anchor holds in a deeper place,

In He who transcends time and space.

My hope might be frail and damaged through,

but it cannot be killed"no, not even by you!

So take what you can and reap as you will!

Christ is my life, forever now, forever still!

Author's Note

Siren
I wrote this as I was trying to process the death of a family friend. I wasn't aiming for high literature here--this is just therapy. Judge as you may.
