Alabama

Alabama

A Poem by Sarah Wlochal

Deep in the heart of Dixie,
Lies a piece of land
Where cotton, corn, and soybeans
Grow in the deep, dark soil

A place where great plantations
Flourished and people lived
At a much slower pace

It gave birth to the Confederacy, but it
is also the place where Civil Right were won...
Both left a lasting legacy

Under the crimson cross of St. Andrew
The traffic, noise, and smells of pollution
Grow and fill me with sadness
As people are not searching for a solution
