To Mr. Gomoll

To Mr. Gomoll

A Poem by Sarah Wlochal

Even though I graduated
From Dubuque Senior High
My alma mater will stay with me
Until the day I die

Now that I am moving on
I will travel to great heights
I could not have made it this far
Without my favorite teacher touching my heart

My life’s role model
Gave me the motivation to pursue
All of my hopes and dreams
To be a great teacher like him

I cannot thank him enough
For everything he’s done
Touching many lives
Forever he will number one!

hmm, very impressive maintaining of rhythm. The line three of stanza 2, lines three and four in stanza 3, and lines three and four of stanza 4 all don't roll off the tongue like they should. Read these lines out loud and see if there's anything to that you can change to make sure the meter is maintained. Look at the number of syllables in each line and how you pair lines together if you're stuck. Otherwise, very touching and inspiring poem. I hope your teacher feels honored to have had a student like you.
