Ending the Enabler

Ending the Enabler

A Poem by tascha:]

Many agreements to abolish the threatening habits,
But still I find your hidden secrets-
Unexpected.
Unwanted.
Yet I remain; to help?

Numerous chances I gave you to save our love,
You reassured me with sweet promises.
You lies caught.
My self-sorrow.
Yet I remain; to help?

Reminders now of my mother's life taken by her addictions,
I refuse that you surrender your's so similarly.
Childhood flashbacks.
Nightmares resurface.
Yet I remain; to help?
Confessing our love and talk of our blissful future,
Of careers established and children not yet conceived.
My desire.
His desire.
So I remain, to help.
I give my last ultimatum although it never works.
But I still find those hidden secrets.
Expected now.
Numb to the pain.
I will not remain.
I choose to save myself.
