Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

A Poem by Tyler Ki

And so it started long long ago

Something neither the natives

Nor pilgrims chose to forgo

Around and around everything went

Having their fill of food and joy

For it was not the time for lent.

And so this tradition

Continued on through time

Never stopped nor restricted

For to our lives, it added a new rhyme.

Food was passed, laughter exchanged

No matter your race

Nor the color of your skin

Who you chose to love

Or whose heart you chose to win.

None of it mattered

For who was the day, to judge

What people sat around the table

When laughter is free,

Just like love.

And here we sit in present time

So many years later

But like that first day

We still buzz and thrive.

Around our own table we sit

Sharing our laughter and love

Joking and teasing

And enjoying ourselves.

As this poem, draws to a close

With only a few more lines left to go

I wish to say aloud for all my friends to hear

I hope your thanksgiving is better than last years’
