How to Live a Simple Life

How to Live a Simple Life

A Poem by taylornugent

Oftentimes we let the world pass us by
The years pass us in the blink of an eye
But sometimes the world gives
Us some of the simplest ways to live

Once you decide to live this way
I promise this lifestyle will be here to stay
"But how do I live a simple life?
I love how I live; I'm Lot's wife"

We'll start simple at first
Go to the coffee shop by yourself and quench your thirst
Buy a newspaper there
And read about all of the world's wears

Drive to the bar
And people watch from afar
Listen to the weight of the drunken voices
This is all about the right choices

Curl up with a good book
It doesn't matter: in a nook,
in a cushy armchair, by a pond
All that matters is that the book makes your heart grow fond

Take yourself out dancing at midnight
If you're brave enough, dance until you feel as high as a kite
If that seems daunting, just watch the rhythm
Of the bodies as the move like a pendulum

Go to the library and read about something useful
Like how to sew or how to get to Utah
You never know, something might call you there
Check out a book you normally wouldn't; it might just become your new fare

Listen to folk music because it's different and exciting
Let the music swell inside you, warm and inviting
It's best to listen to while driving into the sunset
I promise it's not something you will regret

Take a road trip to nowhere
Sit a moment and breathe in the air
Buy something from a little shop you find
But don't feel too inclined

Oftentimes we let the world pass us by
The years pass us in the blink of an eye
But sometimes the world gives
Us some of the simplest ways to live
