Drone strike in Afghanistan.

Now the Pentagon admits

That it made a BIG mistake

That blew ten Afghan civilians to bits.

 

The day: August 31.

Sometimes calculations are wrong

And happen when we stay involved

In places where we don't belong.

 

Three adults and seven children.

Mistakes like this have happened before.

Thousands of civilian deaths

Occurred during our 20-year war.

 

A "reasonable certainty."

That is what it takes to get

The U.S. military to bomb

What it thinks is a dangerous threat.

 

What about upping the threshold?

Regarding such strikes, have we not

Considered that "reasonable" should be

Changed to "certain"? Food for thought.

 

"Collateral damage": an ugly expression.

So many innocent people have died

In wars that are unnecessary.

How can that be justified?

 

"Over the horizon operations."

With zero accountability? Why?

If we plan to continue such strikes,

Then more innocent people will die.

 

Incomprehensible suffering.

Will the U.S. at long last

Dig down deep to find some answers

And learn from its mistakes in the past?

We can't bomb our way out of conflict because all it encourages and creates is more hate. For bombs are indiscriminate and kill everything. Good and bad, a self defeating cycle propagated by our own arrogant hubris and belief that we are the moral compass of the world. That every nation should aspire to be like us. A society which hates itself. In which its own people are at war with each other because of good old fashion hatred. I guess that old adage is true after all; you reap what you sow.

Yes, our military loves our impersonal, high-tech killing machines, for it doesn't have to account for the number of people killed. Sadly, we will reap what we sow.

Hello Bob. Like we saw. Agent Orange effected the soldiers, the land and the people. I don't believe USA had learned. USA and many countries create more weapons to kill. I liked the old joke. "USA have enough Nuclear, bio and chemical weapon to destroy the world 1500 times. The comic asked the audience. How many times can you kill the earth off? One time." Today many are dying for supporting the USA. A can't win world. Thank you my friend for asking the important question with no easy answers.

I don't know what it takes for us to learn. If we didn't learn from Sandy Hook and other shootings about the need of gun legislation, if we didn't learn from the senseless wars of the past, I don't know how bad things have to get.

I believe a nuclear bomb will make the world seek peace. I hope it doesn't happen. Our leaders are dumb as rocks. They believe bigger guns will fix our world. There is enough guns and bombs my friend.
