Rebuilding My Mind

Rebuilding My Mind

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

There are demons unleashed
within my mind,
Maybe even...
within my heart.

They weren't there at the start.
They came to me when my depression and anxiety compiled,
Took away my hopes for true smiles,
Shattered my hopes to rise,
Reach a new mile in my life.

They came to act as wrecking balls,
Demolishing departments of delicate dreams,
Shredding at simple seams,
Florals, butterflies, hearts, rainbows,
Towed away and before I could know,
Up went a new home of iron cast bone,
A blackened beautiful being borne of pain,

A mural of tears, blood, memories,
Meant to be the stronger version of me,
Meant to withstand the pounding of years worth of heartbreak and lies.
Even after that,
My demons will remain
Until they've made a kingdom within my mind.
