"You Should've Come To Us"

"You Should've Come To Us"

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

How did it happen?
How did she come to be lying upon asphalt with her chest cut open?
She couldn't say.

One moment,
She'd been dreaming about how her future would be spent,
The next,
She was sprawled on the ground in a warm pool of blood.
And there was a dark-haired boy leaning over her,
A giant, bloody grin on his face,
Bloodstone eyes seeming way out of place.

"You should've come to us when I asked.
Now, your hour of protection has passed.
You are ours at last."
That's when she noticed the beating heart in his clawed hands,
And descended into the glittering twilight land.

Author's Note

Tessa Melendez
Day 4 of the poetry prompts for the month of May. Topic: Character Assassination. This didn't go as deep as I wanted but, I wanna practice writing shorter pieces, at least, for the poetry prompt challenges. I may expand on this. Who knows?
