The Vortex

The Vortex

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

I can't pinpoint the day
in which this dark vortex
awakened within me.
Swallowing my hopes and dreams
so there was little happiness to be seen,
But, I know where it came from,
Knew that something could've been done,
But, I couldn't be the one to save myself.

I used to try to crawl away,
But the vortex made me stay.
Imprisoned me with its gravity,
Clinging to the edge with whitened fingers,
Wanting badly to hope and dream
just a little longer...

But I could feel myself begin to fall,
Slowly...
Swallowed by the vortex.
Tumbling into a place no one can see,
Where no hands can reach,
My only thought being:
"If only I could've been stronger."

About
I am 20 years old and have been writing since I was 12 years old. I started as a story-writer, I'm more of a poet now. My stories have kinda fallen off and the poetry comes more easily now, more as a .. more..
