Locked Away

Locked Away

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

It's a horrid feeling...
to be locked up.
To know that your will
does not fully bend to you,
but mainly to someone else's.

You don't need to be touched
to complete a task.
You comply because you're bound by fear,
Because you know that no relief is near,
Because you know that there's nothing you can do.

You're locked away,
And there you'll stay,
Because fear holds you in place.
Your king, killing you silently,
Slowly.
With no other reason than to gorge himself on power.

You want to taste life,
See something new.
But again,
There's nothing you can do.
A modern Rapunzel in a tower.
Living under a man's manipulative power.

Where can you go?
You have no money.
You're not close with anyone.
What do you mean, have fun?
What do you mean, leave?
You can't do that.
You'll get ideas of where to run.
We can't have that.
I'll lose my play thing.

But, I can't stay locked inside this home.
I have to live my life.
I lost my childhood to him.
A peaceable adulthood would be nice.

I am 20 years old and have been writing since I was 12 years old. I started as a story-writer, I'm more of a poet now. My stories have kinda fallen off and the poetry comes more easily now, more as a .. more..
