Shadow=You

Shadow=You

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

The greatest pain
for someone who deals with depression,
With any form of mental pressure,
Is the shadow that won't disappear.

It remains forever near.
Tantalizing to the victim.
You wish so badly to stomp it out,
But it becomes a fear.

That shadow has always been part of you.
Like water to clouds,
Birds to sky.
Fish to sea.
It's who you're supposed to be.

So, you learn to breathe,
Befriend this darkness within,
Weave it into your skin
with golden thread.
So that people can see
that it's okay to bear your sins.

Those lines on your body can be good too.
Those lines are you renewed,
Because your shadow persisted.
Just like you did.

Author's Note

Tessa Melendez
Day 15 of the May prompts. I fell behind due to some time spent making money and seeing people. This one's topic is: Shadow Disappear. I feel like I snapped on this one. Secret message and good language (?) I guess that's how I could put it. The quote at the top helped.
