Overthinking

Overthinking

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Overthinking is a pain,
The thoughts come down like rain,
There's no storm drain,
They constantly compound your brain.

They spin around and around,
Trailed by new thoughts.
Funny thing is,
You can't make a sound.
Not till they stop.

When will that be?
That's something you know not.

Your mind is on hyperdrive.
Anxiety creating the high.
It will only burn out
when something relieves your doubts.

Until then,
Thoughts will compress into your skull,
All other senses becoming dull,
All energy in one small, invisible space,
Elsewhere, you are displaced.

If only, your brain knew how to breathe with ease.
