Sweet Daydreams

Sweet Daydreams

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Remember when...
Our hearts swelled with hope?
As we thought about the future,
Sweet little girls who loved the color pink,
Dreaming of knights in shining armor who'd save us with a wink,
Hoping to learn to sing.

"Boys love girls who can sing."
Sighing dreamily over boys too busy playing with toys,
Hoping to one day fulfill cliche dreams with that boy.
Not really knowing what the future will bring.

Such precious daydreams,
Oh, the simplicity when our minds were clean.
Oh, the things we had yet to see,
The emotions we had yet to feel.
Of course,
Remnants of those innocent hopes and dreams stay with us,
But, what of the trust?
What of the rosy cheeks and pleasantries?

I wonder how many people fulfill those rose-petal daydreams,
I barely remember mine,
Maybe that's a sign.

Another one I wrote for the prompts I found. This one is based on the topic: Rose-petal daydreams. I had a couple interpretations of the topic but, I chose the path I related to more and spoke on it.
