![]() “My friend Gary”A Story by Ann A MytaNobody has more of an enthusiasm for saying good morning then my friend Gary, a person who I came to befriend while living at the guess house. “Hey!, Good-Morning, you OK,” he says loudly above a lion's roar, as he waves his hand in the air on his way to his morning cup of coffee and then outside to have his morning smoke, and if you happen to run into him again in less than a minutes time, he’ll still give you that same over enthusiast greeting, as if seeing you for the very first time, Hey, How you doing; you all right, and then once again he's goes back into the world in which he lives, which only makes me wonder how it must be some fantastic world that he lives-in because it always keeps a warm and friendly smile on his face that always brings a smile to my own face in return. My friend Gary never bothers anyone with his problems that may seem obvious to anyone on the outside looking in, but if you got to know Gary you’d realize that he doesn’t have a problem it’s the world outside of his ailment that has the problem. To ask my friend Gary just how and why he ended-up at the guess house in the condition and state of mind that he finds himself in, is a question that you don’t ask Gary, or any other resident of the guess house for that matter, because it’s not important, what does matter is that we’re here among friends who deeply care in one way or another about only your outcome and the well being of our fellow man, no matter what the reason why we all ended up here. It's in his sleep that Gary laughs and he talks, often carrying-on lengthy conversations while unaware that the world outside of his sleep is listening in, which only makes me wish that we were all a part of his world that’s always filled with laughs and conversations that never allows you to sleep alone at night. Gary’s always more than always willing to participate in any strenuous activity that you would think his physical abilities would prevent him from, no! Not Gary, the heart of a lion and the wisdom of an owl, because at times there’s more to Gary then he’s willing to let-on. His loud buzz-saw snoring at night, or in the daytime bothers a sensitive few, but it only lets me know that he’s in there somewhere bumping around in his thoughts, which in Gary’s case has to be many. While being a friend to all, it’s hard for me to picture my friend Gary as having an enemy. And it's the world that Gary resides-in has to have a sound decibel equal to that of the roaring engines of a 747, because even with his headphones placed snugly over his ears, the people down at the lake-front can still hear his music, but to Gary he takes it all in stride while still being aware of his immediate surroundings and the people who care about him, “and this is my friend Gary”
