leave(s)A Poem by thebeanmachinefirst work i ever have ' published ' let me know what you think. how it makes you feel.
I hold my breath.
Inhale, then exhale. Will this be a step forward, or a thousand steps back? Icy breeze strikes my face, the tingle whispers, Hello Old Friend. The smell of rain wanders in the air; the remnants of the tears. But now, they have gone. I can hear her calling to me. Her sweet melody. So unafraid. Only something I hear in lucid dreams; only have had a taste. You have been starved for too long, she says Take a step further. The vines intertwined between my toes begin to tighten. They scream This is your home! We will die without you! But they know I must go. Thorns tear through my flesh, lovingly, as they always do. Angry and bitter, they plead for me to stay. But she says, Take a step further. She shares my face, but not my spirit. She is untouched by the cold, the darkness. Yet she knows all I am missing. Her eyes, uncovered. Her mind, finally free. -k. © 2020 thebeanmachine
