Humanity DivineA Poem by thefriendlyghosta contemplation of how we as humans view the divine and the humaneAngels at corner stores and monsters in your neighborhood God in run-down, abandoned places and humanity in the everyday The angels don’t know what to do Anymore than we as humans do If everything is fate, how can there be free will? If everything is free will, how does life go on? Did we choose this life, these moments? Or were they written out for us before, In the stars, or holy texts? Did we choose to believe in the divine? Or did the divinity come first, and the followers second? I suppose we’ll never know the answers to any of these questions, So we’ll settle instead for whatever explains Our infinitesimal corner of the universe best We either fear or revere these higher powers That serve as the basis of our morality We follow these codes and rules, All in the hope of a better next thing A next life, an afterlife And yet we don’t know We don’t know if it’s real, We don’t know if it will save us And yet we find faith We find angels on the side of the road, We find monsters in the worst of humanity, We find humanity in the worst of the world, And somewhere there is god Or a god Or many gods And maybe we’re all just looking for them, For that higher power, Looking to see what we should do But maybe we should look within us first, And around us second Maybe we’ll find what we need in ourselves, Or in those we hold dear Maybe we’ll find our free will, And maybe we’ll find our humanity there © 2024 thefriendlyghost |
