Parcels in Service

Parcels in Service

A Poem by Amanda Abra
"

An oddly descriptive piece looking back on life at Americas #1 package facility... Experiment created for my Poetry Workshop class at Columbia in 2007

"

A palace maze, stagecoaches wind the interior

The hierarchy, kings and queens with heads topped in jewel
A knight in shining armor and his chariot
Sweeps up the young servant girl-
Providing more fodder for the jesters.
The congregation, body politic
Will have my head ‘round suppertime
A roast, sumptuous in cyanide
The band orchestrates, and they waltz
To the nines, in formal’s best.

You've very nicely captured the opulance of the palace and the extravagance of its occupiers. This couplet in particular stood out as an indictment of those with blue blood: 'Will have my head 'round suppertime
A roast, sumptuous in cyanide'.

It's a grand and original image. A head basted with cyanide. Great piece.

P.S: A belated thanks for the kind review, it was much appreciated.
