chapter 1 prologue

 I was just 5 when my father started showing me around his workplace  a lab filled with dangerous weapons and people but one caught my eye a girl sitting in a corner in her cell who is she I asked my dad. He paused a dangerous one he said now go do what you want as he walked into a conference room. I went to see the girl through the glass I was nervous at first but I thought what was the worst that could’ve happened I knocked on the glass to get her attention. She looked at me the purple eyes caught me off guard but she came over I started small talk like introducing myself she said that mason was a cool name. Then she introduced herself ruby a weird name I’ll admit but it was good to not have a normal name. As the years went by our friendship grew dad was reluctant but saw it good that ruby had a friend since normally the only other people she meets are doctors and scientists. But one day the higher ups decided to do a reform program for some of the dangerous people who showed kindness to others ruby was one of them. Dad knew the only way it was going to work was if ruby stayed with him and me. I was pretty excited for her I remember showing her around the neighborhood she was shy at first but when school started dad made sure she wasn’t without me for safety reasons he said. The first day we walked to school and it was okay when we got in then my known bully Clark started going off. Ha the pipsqueak brought a girl with him what a surprise. Before he could finish another voice showed up. Shut it Clark it was my friend Jacob or do you want my brother to meet with your dad again. Clark grunted then walked off. Well Jacob said don’t be rude mason who is your friend here. Right I said this is ruby she staying with my dad and me for a while. So are you two you know Jacob asked? No I said Jacob you big dofus as I playfully punched his arm. Jacob looked at ruby who as this point was strangling my arm. I guess she is antisocial Jacob stated. Jacob I shouted that is rude to say to someone you just met. Sorry Jacob said your right but people might get the wrong idea with her hanging on your arm like that. I looked at ruby and said I don’t care what they think.  She’s only comfortable with me for right now Jacob laughed Gloria will have a field day with this as he walked off. Class was easy but I wondered if ruby would be fine with Gloria’s pestering if there is one thing Gloria does is tries to know someone very well. At lunch ruby got her food and sat with me Jacob and a couple of other people.  As a joke one of them threw a Twinkie at me I threw it back and another one got up and went towards me. Jacob stood up blocking him another went from the other side. You shouldn’t have done that the guy said as he grabbed my shirt at this point I was about to do something but out of the corner of my eye I saw ruby who was right next to me boiling. I tried to defuse the situation but to no avail the guy stood me up and with both hands grabbed my shirt as he did this ruby grabbed his shirt and pulled him down to her level and stared into him with her eyes. You trying to scare me girl he asked as he took one hand off me and went to slap her. She caught it and bent it backward now with him grabbing his arm trying to get it free I said don’t do it ruby. She listened letting him go him and his buddy sat back down like it never happened. At gym we played dodge ball me and ruby got on the same team I taught her the basics and taught her the hoarding tactic.  Soon our team had every dodge ball. We pelted them with them it was a fun time but one of our teammates got mad at ruby for grabbing the dodge ball she was going for I got in between them but as I was trying to take ruby away from the situation the guy tried to punch me as I hit the ground ruby shouted mason. Jacob got in the guy’s face it turned into a pushing and shoving match as I felt like I got hit with a brick. The gym teacher broke up the fight and called the nurse for me. When she got their I was sitting down with ruby. As the nurse was checking my head it was found that in the kid’s glove he was wearing was a piece of metal that’s why it hurt me so bad. But I was fine somehow. After that it was time to go home I said bye to Jacob and me and ruby went home. When we entered the door dad was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper. He saw us and got up how was your day kids. Well dad I said after getting attacked twice I said pretty well. Mason dad said you can’t get into fights with ruby around their lucky they didn’t get hurt too bad since I haven’t got any calls. Yea dad I said one of them hit me with a piece of metal in his glove. About an hour later knocking came from the front door it was Jacob with Gloria. I reluctantly opened the door. Hey mason Jacob said where heading to the park now we have someone for that fifth swing too Gloria added. You told her I asked knowing the answer. I went and got ruby and we were on our way ruby was sticking to me like flypaper. Gloria was asking a lot of questions as expected. When we finally got there we all hit the swings ruby got the hang of it but as I got low something hit my head I woke up in a dark room. With voices talking is he the one? Yes the other said her friend soon she will be in her rightful place. Not long after a boom took place of the silence screeching could be heard. As two men entered the room and took me to a big room and sat me in a chair and tied my hands. I looked at the big metal door that connected the room to the hallway the door was getting huge dents then the door went flying. Ruby was on the other side with her face showing rage she looked at me and then said let mason go. I can’t do that princess for too long your father Satan has missed you a man said and if we bring him you we will surely be awarded. Balls of flame were in her hand she was about to throw them but then a knife touched my neck. You do that and he gets it the man said. she put out the fire balls fine she said you can take me back as flames surround as her clothes changed  into her devil princess outfit. See already ahead of the game princess the man said.  As a portal opened he said take a good look mason that is the last time you’re going to see her then a creature came out of the portal. It looked around as soon as it saw ruby it ran back and soon another stepped out and said ruby my daughter. Dad ruby shouted as she ran to give him a hug. They embraced in a happy moment even I was touched.  Then the man spoke oh great Satan I brought you back your daughter all I ask is that you allow me and my friends here to have a spot of honor when we die. Father ruby said they kidnapped my only friend in this world to get me over here. Satan looked at the man slowly as his red horns appeared his voice rose you did what! We did lord but it was the only way otherwise they wouldn’t let us have her to give back to you. Satan looked at me and approached he ripped the ropes off and gently stood me up are you okay he asked in a softer voice? Yes thank you Satan words I thought I would never say. Then he looked back at the man and as for you how dare you kidnap my daughters only friend in this world when I lost her I thought I would never get her back but now I see that she’s happy and you want to rip it away I don’t think so as he grabbed the man and threw him across the room! Fine then Satan maybe she will forget about him when he’s dead shoot the boy men he shouted! They were about to open fire but then Satan whistled and hell hounds came out through the portal and chased the men down. Then another explosion through the roof as men rappelled from a helicopter. Soon the demons and the men were staring each other down. Ruby get behind me Satan said as he approached soon my dad came too where is my son Satan he asked in a stern voice? I am fine dad I said while getting pass the demons if it weren’t for Satan I more than likely  would be dead.  Again words I thought I would never say.  My boy Satan said I should thank you for keeping my daughter company all these years. But I think my daughter should choose where to stay. Ruby was nervous but then went to her father and spoke I want to stay with mason dad. He put his hand on her if that is what you desire sweetheart. Ruby then gave me a big hug but in the middle of it boom a shot rang out i felt a sharp burning pain at my backside. I went limp as I fell backwards. Everyone looked it was that man struggling to keep his balance. See what happened I gave kindness and you tried to kill me and it is much sweeter to see your daughter suffer and you can’t do anything. My dad walked to him who tried to fire but the gun was jammed. How dare you my dad shouted as he struck the man why he was innocent why couldn’t you of just died and saved us all the pain. As he was about to strike his hand was caught it was Satan who picked up the man and held him above him you took something that didn’t belong to you so guess what I’ll take something of yours. He held his other hand up your soul will get eternal damnation. The man’s soul went to Satan who put it in a jar for later. There was no time so I had to have a little field surgery I was barely alive at that point. The bullet got stuck in soft tissue nothing important they took it up and stitched me back up and took me back to the hospital. I passed out halfway through. I woke in a hospital bed and saw ruby at my side sobbing holding my hand it took all I had to squeeze my hand. She looked up at me with a smile mason your truly okay the doctors said because of blood loss you had a 5% chance of survival but I never gave up and your dad didn’t either and neither did mine she added. I felt like dead weight I couldn’t really move. I smiled though as my dad walked in and shouted he’s awake. Everyone rushed in to my room to see me. I knew you make it son my dad said I never gave up. Wouldn’t leave for a couple days until you woke up.  Dad, satan,jacob,and Gloria were there. Satan approached in his human form my boy you did well even if you would of died I would of accepted you as royalty with a seat of honor next to my daughters.  The doctors tried to get me to fill out a no resuscitation order but I wouldn’t my dad said. Satan even gave you a lot of his own blood my dad added. Luckily my blood can be put into anyone Satan stated. I was happy that I brought two sides together for a little bit. A doctor came and spoke alright everyone needs to leave the investigator has questions for Mr. Mason. Everyone left the room reluctantly and the investigator walked in. so he said getting out his note pad what was this a hardcore larping gone wrong or something like that. No I said weakly the investigator looked annoyed you expect me to believe that the man in there is actually Satan and the girl is his daughter. Look kid if you expect me to believe that. you’re wrong now tell me the truth now! Then a man walked in Mr. Mason you don’t have to say anything else now detective you know that yelling at the victim is against the law. And you are the investigator asked?  Masons attorney now why would he lie he almost died and you need to watch your tone he said. The guy who shot him is not in a jar that is Ludacris the investigator said back. Well then put him on a lie detector when he is ready until then leave my client alone. The investigator left. And my attorney looked at me don’t worry sir I am the best that Satan has to offer. Ruby came back in and sat by my side and grabbed my hand I smiled. I thought i lost you ruby said I know god wouldn’t have let you be with me you did nothing wrong you wouldn’t of deserved to be down there with me.  She laid next to me looking into my eyes I would never leave you alone I said Weakley. I remember when we were 5 she said you were so kind you convinced me to listen to the doctors you promised you would stay and you did I know you would never leave me. I know you can’t do much right now or I would go to the park with you to try again what went wrong that day. I knew that one day I would never be the same on that swing set but at least now I know it would be okay. Ruby’s purple eyes were all I needed to look at to know I was okay.
