Take me as I am

Take me as I am

A Poem by Pooja Patel
"

A poem about coming undone. A poetic plea for raw acceptance.

"
Strip me
of socially prescribed beauty,
creams to conceal
my scars, my stories.
Rid me
of my riches.
Will you take me empty?
Filled with sorrow,
dressed in hope,
adorned with good intentions?
Disrobe me
of temporary illusion,
my youth,
my flowering body,
Take my wilting truth.
Clear me
of my name,
who I was,
who I am,
who I am destined to be.
Embrace me, open armed;
a star-crossed dreamer
born to become
cosmic ash
or a forgotten sleeper
six feet under.
Take me raw
Take me whole
Take me tainted

Take me as I am.

"Take me raw
Take me whole
Take me tainted

Take me as I am."

You have such a clear and effective way of getting your point across, while speaking to the reader and making it feel personal. And the way that you end the poem is so moving. I feel as if saying that this was relatable doesn't exactly do it justice; this felt like you were telling my story (and probably so many others)
Wonderful!

Thank you for sharing
