Question Of Ethic

Question Of Ethic

A Poem by therisa
"

Sparked by, a conversation, between KL Goode and I.

"
How would you feel
If someone
You knew
On social assistance
Was crowd sourcing
For their SRS?

Knowingly
By doing so
They're breaking
The law.

In having assets
Greater than $6 000
The limit for
Anyone
On ODSP.

Forcing
An automatic suspension
Until the excess
Is spent
Under provincial guidelines.

Honestly
The risks
And penalties
Aren't worth it.

Given the clawbacks
I would have
To repay.

Besides
I still need
To get approval
From CAMH.

To start
The long journey
Of uniting
My body and soul
As one.

Personally, the lines I draw are moral and not legal ones. Considering the fact that some people on social assistance do a lot worse, I wouldn't feel badly. But, if you were my sister, I would do it for you, so it wasn't yours and you would not get in trouble. So there's that. I don't believe we should draw lines in health care that are so arbitrary. We pay for fertility treatments, but I had to pay for a procedure two prevent severe pain and cramping, and excessive bleeding, because I wasn't willing to undergo a hysterectomy. It makes no sense the places they decide to draw the lines.
ps. it should be ethics :)
