Autumn

Autumn

A Poem by Gretchen

winter rushed the earth
demanding to be felt
with a shiver and a shudder
and ice that didn't melt
until, that is, spring came along
and tapped him on the shoulder
"excuse me, mr. Winter, sir
but you can't get much colder
for the flowers in the meadows
would quite like to bloom
so if you don't mind, mr.winter, sir
I'll be taking over soon"

soon enough,
spring had sprung
the flowers blossomed
and the birds sung

without any notice,
the bright blazing heat of the sun
alerted all creatures
that summer had begun

ice cream cones
and crashing waves
a sun that shown
throughout the days

but autumn killed summer
with the softest kiss
tasting of cinnamon
and pure bliss

all the other seasons
smiled upon fall
as they knew she was
the most beautiful
of them all
