Fate

Fate

A Poem by theunionisloud

The wind blows, and the tree is compelled
Forwards, backwards
A child sits under his father's roof and
watches
Forwards, backwards
Admiring the fluid dexterity of its movement
Wondering if it is cued
by some divine source
or
Simply
Knows its place.

To me this poem seems to be exploring the age-old conundrum of whether there is truly such a thing as free will or whether we're all small parts of something much bigger and our role is already pre-destined.

Although effectively a single stanza I see the line, "forwards, backwards" as providing a break between each image. First the tree, then the boy and finally the boys analysis. Doing this perhaps hints at how everything is connected - the boy and the tree and even his thoughts are all one and the same.

I liked this poem, it made me think!

What a great, short poem! The image is unmistakable and the child's thoughts are really quite profound. I'm struggling with the capitalization a bit, wondering whether the capitals are moved by some poetic force or simply know their places. Good work. :-)(Thanks, Denish, for pointing me in this direction)

A very good poem. Some mysteries leave us in wonder. I like the gentle pace and story in this short poem. I like the questions of a sort at the end. A outstanding poem. Thank you.

I thought this was very good. I like the simplicity of the writing; very effective here. I like the scene you paint so well here...great ending... I am glad Dinesh request me to come here...good writing...

Wow, this is awesome. And very nostalgic. The comparison of the tree and the child is simply great!

I'm not offended by free verse, but I could just recommend you to write in rhyme and rhythm. A good practice is to roughly draft a free verse poem on a certain matter, and at a later time, try and edit it into meter and rhyme.

Keep writing.
