Illusions

A Poem by thisopenbook
"

Sometimes what we perceive as love is really lust

"
When what you held close to your heart is deserted
Forcibly withdrawn from underneath
The niches and comforts your heart once knew
Yanked out from under it's feet
Longings, desires forsaken
Songs and lyrical poems withdrawn
Forces humans to realise what is already known
It is time for you to move on
No longer do you know what you live for
Smile, though for who remains to be discovered
Since your surroundings are sinister in nature
No way for your happiness to be delivered
Humans have a heart that adapts
Otherwise, how could we have so many loves
If there is a word that has been used time again
It's the mention of love when you felt lust

It was inevitable for me to read this without mournful eyes and fake smile. It is true, many confuse love with lust. This poem made me ask myself if falling in love with a fictional character is really possible. You may know how he or she looks but have never seen him or her, and you know almost all of his or her personality depending on the openness of the author and so on. Many books have introduced the idea that time is the one that builds love and love at first sight is simply lust. I am glad to read a poem that finally gives a thought about this, thanks!!!
