Hook Him Up to the Machine

"
Hook him up to the machine.
Shock his brain into
mediocrity.
Death stalks him;
he is aware.
There is too much
flash in his eyes.
His brain needs a reboot;
he needs to forget,
like a goldfish, like
a monkey in the zoo.

Hook him up to the machine.
He is too sentimental.
Salmon swim in his blood;
he has a paisley heart,
and a tie-dye soul.
He can smell colors.
Hook him up to the machine.
He has Van Gogh eyes, and
a Bukowski gut; he walks
like he's lost in a maze;
hunchback sadness,
butcher knife nerves,

Hook him up to the machine.
He believes in love,
and has too much trust.
His vivid green memory
is a curse, we need to
crash it, kill the eternal spring.
Hook him up to
the machine.

Why think for yourself when others will do it for you?
I'm undecided on whether this is about "the suggestors" on writerscafe, who near enough demand their edits are the way it should be done, or the wider world in general, but one thing is for sure, they are everywhere!
My advice, for what it's worth is avoid them all like they have covid and write what you feel. But most importantly, take their advice with dumbstruck worth of salt, and I should know... I did write a piece called "like a toenail" after all! ☺

Thanks, Lorry. I appreciate the read and comment. This one is more about the world in general.

so very true. thanks.
This makes me think of electroshock therapy and trying to get rid of anything that people/doctors don’t seem “normal”

The abnormalities and uniqueness is what makes us human and different and beautiful. Sad that they would want to take all that away.

Love this poem and thought process conveying this disturbing idea and the imagery is vivid and helps get your thought across

There are critics everywhere wanting to make adjustments, corrections, having suggestions. People want everyone to be the same with no variations. They think that people should think as they do and if not hook him up to the machine. Good write Thomas
