Shifting

Shifting

A Poem by tlaner
"

I tried writing something after a coworker gave me a topic.

"
Running thoughts amid the sunlight,
fingers grasp and recoil at the warmth of the sand,
an hourglass with no end during these hot months.
Smiles and chirps of laughter around every corner,
mind and reflection of worn down faces.
A moment of endless smiles,
burnt skin,
tanned or bronzed,
wet with the threat of the next change.
Does the first smile turn with the quivering leaf,
gust of gray clouds,
or has it always been with a mask of sunshine and heat?
A smirk can change with a cold treat,
adjust and fall prey to gray or remain constant for the next green field.
Rain can join us and dampen the mood but brings life to see with only one turn and click of times face.  Covered and quivering happiness beneath the sky,
gales of brown, gold, gray sting my eyes,
slowly moving to black and white cold memories of family, friends and loves lost.
Some laugh to depression others cry to happiness, shifts of time to bring cold tides moving towards our sand.
We pause and think of those warmer times, slip and fall from weathers delight.
We try and pull closer to someone to keep warm, finding company only from the hourglass.
No end in sight,
no longer warm but cold truths of who you are.
A fake memory that will soon freeze in the flowing sands of time.
