Idealists and Beggars

Idealists and Beggars

A Poem by Anor

You're here to help me?
Why, what nonsense, old chap!
Me all alone in my cape and my cap,
Why, that'd be an absurdity!

Nobody needs to know what's happened,
What despairs have plagued my life,
I am only a poor man so this strife,
Would only mean that I'd be further shunned

What's that? You care?
Oh, don't make me laugh.
Here, on the public's behalf,
I pray for you the Lord's Prayer.

Such idealism, such lack of wit!
You really don't know how the world works,
And in the confines of society what shadows lurk,
My, it's been a while since I've seen such a git!

Well, if you insist, I'll have a copper or two
You'll be regretting this soon enough;
'Course, don't expect me to say thank you;
The food this buys will shut my mouth, it's quite tough.
