The fine line

The fine line

A Poem by tobias16

As the minutes tick past on another restless night,
I drift in and out of dreams.
Some I can tell are fantasy,
others I'm not sure if they're real
or memories
being replayed
over and over again.
Visions of us past through my sight,
our first kiss,
nights sleeping on the couch,
the first time we made love.
But then they mutate into new scenes.
I get replaced
with another man.
New faces appear and disappear.
Bridges I thought would never burn
catch fire and fall before my very eyes.
Words are just words
to most people
but to me they're ties that bind us.
I'll take your words with me,
for they're all I have left.
The flame of what was once us
is now frozen;
neither fully extinguised or flicking.
I keep the memories of my past on my mind
like scars on my skin.
Never able to forget.

It's a very powerful and heartfelt poem. The metaphors and symbolism used in it make for very strong imagery. It's a beautiful read.
