Lakeview

A Poem by Tom Q

Deer nibble at the flowers

Tracks left in drifting snows

A beautiful girl visits daily

Sadness in her heart only grows

Oh the neighbor is beloved

The other is a good wife

Over there a famous fellow

All embracing an afterlife

Love is expensive at times

When demise is so sudden

Caring makes us vulnerable

Loss is loves tormented cousin

If a life is to be lived full

It must be without defense

To open oneself to pain

No comfort as you lament

Woe to those who hold love at bay

and dead while still breathing

Never to enterain sorrow or hurt

Protecting a heart destroys all feeling

Life offers one chance to leave with a gain

Though not easy  for the faint of heart

Submit to the master of torment and pain

or avoid it and pay a much greater cost.
