Shadows and Fireflies

Shadows and Fireflies

A Poem by TopHatGirl

Can't sleep,
the shadows of my nightlight,
dance around my room.

Outside the window,
the full moon beckons,
me to come.

I obey,
slid out the window.
The summer grass feels
cool against my bare feet.

Fireflies twirled around me,
flashlights against the dark sky.
They kiss my skin lightly,
sending shivers down my spine.

I hear crickets chirping softly,
but I cannot see them in the dark.
I spin in circles,
the stars laugh with me.

Then the shadows come.

The shifts in leaves tell signs of
danger,
lurking where you cannot detect.

Waiting, waiting.
For you to come,
so they can take you.

They whisper in your ear,
lure you with lies of passion and romance.
But I resist,
struggle, struggle.

I know.

That there is evil in the dark.

Who that was profound... I like how you describe all the beauty of the night then flicked the switch to danger... sad but true that evil can strike from anywhere, even in the daylight... well done.
