Streets of Gold - Poem #14

Streets of Gold - Poem #14

A Poem by toritto

Paki cabbie
one fare more
drives in Manhattan
dreams of Lahore

Tiffin man
washes dishes
catches the subway
Lakshmi wishes

Mexico’s son
picks the ground
tomatoes today
a penny a pound

Latina domestica
behind the gates
cares for the children
while her own son waits

A poet of Haiti
lost soul of Jeremie
scribbles in a notebook
washes cars in Miami

Paki cabbie
Tiffin run
Haiti’s poet
Mexico’s son

Give me your tired, your poor
your tempest tossed
I’ll put them to work
at well below cost.
