Forgive and Never Forget

Forgive and Never Forget

A Poem by Riley Justine
"

We aren't always obliged to forgive everyone...

"

Today I learned that I can’t swim

Because forgiving you on a whim

Is the most senseless thing I could’ve done;

The equivalent of bringing to my head a gun.

I can’t forgive myself for forgiving you.

Today I learned that I can’t draw

And allowing you back in was a flaw

Once again you tore me down,

Led me to the water and helped me drown

I can’t forgive myself for forgiving you

Today I learned that I can’t sing

You led me back like I was on a string

Inside my soul you impressed grief

Tried to steal my heart like a thief

I can’t forgive myself for forgiving you

But today I learned that I can write

And that a failure was your plight.

Again you tend to nauseate

And this time I will retaliate

I won’t forgive myself for forgiving you

Forgiveness can be relative. We can forgive others, but we may not always be able to forgive ourselves.

I do like the poem. Had the feel of a song.
"I won’t forgive myself for forgiving you"
Forgiveness is a two-sided blade. Hard to forget the bad deeds done to us and we know we must to move on. I enjoyed the poem. Left the reader with a question. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I like the writing scheme.
With a lot of poems that I read many cannot write this scheme and have it written well.
With this poem you have a great flow throughout the whole piece.
Keep writing!

I really like this. The structure wasn't forced. It flows and fits together while still seeming real and personal.

Thanks Lizzie :)
Wow this is really great. I must say that I really love love love the rhyming scheme. And the title really caught my attention. Forgive and Never Forget. This means that even though it might seem so, our forgiveness wasn't in vain. They may tear us down and break us to the ground time and time after again. At least we will learn a lesson. And hopefully live to tell. Like you did so perfectly in this poem.
Great job. stay inspired.
