i already know

i already know

A Poem by Anu Biswas

I haven't seen you in
purple twilight
your tender fingers
wrapped around blue absinthe
but i already know
how you will uncross your long legs
and tell me a story
of a crummy hotel room in China
noisy immigrants and lumpy bed.

I haven't smelled
your sketchy hands
that create fountains
and boulevards with colored stones
But i already know
how you will brush grey ash from my flushed face
with an aching smile
in the hot february winter sun.

I haven't watched
you sleep as your city sleeps
ten thousand miles and eleven hours
into my yesterday
but i already know
how you will eat luscious warm chocolate pie
making neat little slivers of precision
as i feast on your sweet indulgence.

I haven't touched
your soft beard
with moody flecks of grey
as you tease me with your angelic smile
but i already know
when the end comes
and i fear the conversations will fade
you will cross your heart and hug me tight
and tell me, why do you say so.
