digging

digging

A Poem by thetish

I keep working as tasked from one day to next
Never looking up, nor stopping
Making sure to finish each day's toll
Making sure to smile and curtsy.

Suddenly a jolt; I come with a freight
To discover the sky so distant
Out of reach, out of sight
I've lost all ability to stand upright.

I have dug a well, so deep and so wide
Yet the water has not started filling
I have done as assigned, chipping away,
Yet never realized why, when or where.

Without any water, with no air to breathe
I have left myself gasping and coughing
I must find the light and pull myself out
Of the hole within which I'm crouching.

In your thoughts you confess so much for endless souls digging daily, thinking they are somehow moving forward when they are merely getting lost deeper down. May we find a way to climb out from the darkness into the life-giving light.

The image of a jaded, routined , chained soul has been depicted very well !
