Even the Sacred Sun

Even the Sacred Sun

A Poem by Paris Hlad

eEven the Sacred Sunf

Some Lines Concerning the Bronze Age

Even the sacred sun must die "

It is the way of things,

Seen in the dust

On snouted gods

And stuffed

Egyptian kings

The frog that hopped

Along the Nile,

The lion on the plain -

They perished in

A time of drought

Or in a time of rain

Who built the great necropolis,

Who bartered for the wheat,

Who raised a phallic obelisk,

Or tickled pharaoh’s feet

Were painted

Every stroke alike

In colors that would fade,

Into the walls of pyramids,

Despite what spells were made.

The only thing constant in this plane is change. Not even the rich and powerful are above it. Your offering makes me think of Shelley's poem "Ozymandias."

Your knowledge of ancient history is quite remarkable ( Bronze Age) it seem like everything that was built has now faded into the wind, defying the gods, etc... you mention that colors were much the same in those years and all faded into the great pyramids.... not to mention severe droughts which killed beasts of all kinds... and maybe even the sun....lovely write and educational!

Thank you for your lovely compliment.

It's strange to think of myself as a teacher, some 19 years after retiring and moving onto other things. Recently, I called the school's business office concerning my medical insurance, and the lady I talked remembered me from tenth English class! Life i9s absolutely amazing. I'll be returning the favor and looking at your work later today.

Best Wishes for the new year.
