The Dregs of Love

The Dregs of Love

A Poem by Paris Hlad

The Dregs of Love

(An Anniversary Poem)

Two cups

Of teardrops

To the brim

Were set beneath the sun;

And as the day

Passed on in love,

A marriage had begun

But when these cups grew empty,

For old tears bejewel the sky,

Two loving hands

Took up a toast

And passed the evening by

New tears were shed,

The cups refreshed,

And they were

Set in place,

As truth infused the dregs of love

And love was face-to-face.
