In Defense of Hell Part 2

In Defense of Hell Part 2

A Story by Paris Hlad

Invocation of the Paraclete[1]

(Affirmation of Divine Inspiration)

U

Hail, Holy Spirit!

Thou milk-white blood

Of everything and everyone!

Thou radiant source of special wonder,

Who to anointed eyes, shows like the sun,

Rising from the hand of a blind musician!

Oh, thou awful tingling of the skelp

That bows my head before thee!

Thou shiver of discovery

That lifts my mind

Unto the heavens!

Move in me what only You can move!

Blaze down on me in truth,

Both beautiful and deadly,

The bread of life, renewing -

And the necessary death blow!

[1] According to Mirriam-Webster, paracletus means “advocate” or “helper.” In Christianity, the term “paraclete” most commonly refers to the Holy Spirit. Paris equated a desire to please God with divine inspiration, and thus, his invocation of God’s spirit is made fearfully and with “great expectations.”
