A Kind of Cross

A Kind of Cross

A Poem by Paris Hlad

A Kind of Cross

A Poem Written Over a Period

Of Fifty Highly Passionate

And Often Amusing Years

-U-

We have become a kind of cross:

An intersection comprised of extremes -

But to just sit here is to languish

On behalf of existential ennui,

While to venture further is to agitate

On behalf of the repetitively absurd

Yet, a perfect cross

May be extended

Over a perfect sphere -

And although its lines will for awhile

Move farther and farther apart,

They will intersect again "

And again, and again

In exactly the same place

As long as they continue

To extend.

Interesting take here. We are caught between immobility and extension. Of course, if the only reality is now, all that would seem to be negated.
