The Donkey Head

The Donkey Head

A Poem by Paris Hlad

The Donkey Head

(A Reflection on My Alcoholism)

---

I hate you, ruddy, smiley face;

I hate your potted grin;

For it is like a donkey head
That mocks a fool within

Best to be sober,
Without cheer;

Best to be

Set apart

For when I am a laughing a*s,
A stumbling seems to start

I hate you, ruddy, smiley face;

I hate your common way
Of calling up my naked self

With “Life-in-Death” to play!
