Raw

Raw

A Poem by Derek ubuntu Dunham

War is raw

In every sense

of the word

Virgin Metal

Elements mined and mixed

Cast for the sole intention

Of piercing another soul

Ripped from the Earth

Only to return there

At 681 miles an hour

Shells discarded

In a deafening flash.

Their contents projected

In literal expressions of both

Fight and Flight

Brass and Lead

Left countless dead

But beyond bullets, blood

Or whose soil it seeps into

Entire cultures undermined

Often eradicated

Absolutely intentionally

For private purposes

And pockets filled of

People you'll never know

For reasons they'll never tell you

Death and I are on curious terms. You could almost say we have an affair of sorts. Nothing serious--just flirting every now and then. I really like this piece. It puts things into perspective. There are plenty of glasses to look through, when it comes to war and death. I think maybe if we saw it with our own eyes, we would understand it a little better. But, no one ever comes back to warn us, do they? Thank you, for this incredibly great write.

A very noble, thoughtful poem, that echoes my rejection of violence - fine job

The poem told the truth. War is raw and cold. Soldier kill without knowing why or who? I was a Soldier for 15 years. I met Soldiers from other countries. We were comrade in trade. The young pay for the sins and hate of their leaders. No weakness in the outstanding poetry.

The imagery is shocking and pungent, and straight to the bone. The horrors of war can reach even to the most "honorable" seats in society, to accomplish political achievements, but destroying human life. It is scary knowing that people are murdered for reasons they don't know. Well written, sir.

War is an addiction cause once it starts it's next to impossible to stop.

This piece is a perfect description of that hell on earth. For such a mystery as war, the deeper mystery is why they continue. Amazing write.
