Winding

Winding

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez

Pensive pleasure
Irresistible irony
Provocative precautions
Melodramatic misery
Decadent desire
Irrational realities
The stages of life
Before fatality

And moral confusions
Such folds of gray
This wretched life
This game we play

And rules are suggestions
Always meant to be broken
But with no one to fool
We risk these things
Lie to ourselves
In the destruction we bring

So chaotic clutches
Yes the wrath consumes
Incessant fire
Of creative compulsions
A brutal attack
Of fathomless emotions

Preliminary paranoia
Dramatic demise
Extracted extinction
The end of it all
The prices we pay
As were ready to fall

So look before you fall
Look on ahead
See through the lies
That'll bring you dread

Chemicals can falter
Make you feel the imaginary
See what's real
Taste it and believe it
But deception is the game it plays
And victims it collects
Preys on them calmly
When they see no regrets
