Snake Charmer

Snake Charmer

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez

Play that tune again
Watch me rise from the basket
Spiraling up,
You've signed your casket

Hypnosis,
I'm hooked
Look at what you've done
Have you no shame,
As u watch me come undone?

Keep playing,
I beg
Need the sound of music
Dancing right out
Do you see how it soothes me?

Controlling...
Controlling...
You love that high
Master, I beg
Let me be shy
The quickening pace
The sinking sand
I'm falling from grace
Right where I stand

Slither
Slather
Would you rather,
Let me free?
See me run?
Let me be,
And watch the sun

Reptilian folklore
This legend I'll be
You're the charmer
And I the serpent
Let me out!
With a venomous bite
Yes, master I wish to leave
But not without a fight

Attack!
Sneakily, I prey
Deceived you with a dance
When I bite you this way
Close your eyes
Your vulnerability I trust
Shut them tight
As the pain will erupt

You played your tricks
Straight out of the book
Content that I've read them
Before my heart you took

Now who can be blamed
For your faulty actions?
What did you expect?
What sort of reaction?

I laugh as you fall
Now who has the charm?
Don't need your fancy music
To pull this alarm

Such a wicked serpent
Yes I have disobeyed
Bit the hand that guided me
But only in vain

Sing your last song
On your way to the grave
This is the last song
Of your snake charmer ways
